Human Environmental Links Progressive Organization wins Earth Care Award 2012

The APFED Showcase supported organization HELP-O of Sri Lanka has been honoured by the Times of India with the prestigous Earth Care Award 2012. The award recognizes organizations which exemplify innovation in the field of sustainable development.

The Earth Care Awards is unique and aimed at highlighting action of direct relevance to the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) initiative to tackle challenges posed by climate change.  The award is for excellence in climate change mitigation and adaptation. The award came about in response to the growing consciousness about the importance of fostering locally-evolved options to reduce emissions and approaches to land and water resource protection. The 2012 Earth Care Award focused on three important thematic areas; significance of action by industries, collaborative action by industry and community and action by other major stakeholders on the issue of climate change.

The award ceremony took place on September 14, 2012, hosted by The Times of India and the JSW Foundation, in association with the Centre for Environment Education (another NGO supported by the APFED Showcase Programme).
